Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS SELF-STORAGE?

Our self-storage facility is purpose built, meaning that it has been constructed with storage space being the main focus in regards to the building’s structure, security, convenience and usability.  Self-storage units are perfect for domestic and commercial use, from moving house to storing business stock.  You select the size of unit you feel is suitable for your needs, store your possessions within it, and take your items when you need them 24/7.  The flexibility is what sets self-storage apart from other solutions, there are no long-term contracts, you can move units when you require less or more space and we only require 14 days’ notice when you wish to leave.

 OUR FACILITIES

How secure is your facility?

Astwood Storage facility can only be entered by customers using an access key fob.  This key fob restricts and limits access to only the areas in which your storage unit is located.  Our advance entry system monitors when and where access has been granted.

Our facility is monitored 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by CCTV.  We also have out of hours security patrols on weekends and overnight.

Your storage unit is locked with a padlock.  This is your padlock – you can either purchase one from us, or use your own, so only you have access to your unit.

When is the office open?

We are open Monday – Friday between the hours of 8:30 – 17:00.  The facility and your unit are accessible 24/7, 365 days per year.  If you require assistance out of hours, you can call the emergency numbers which are placed in and around the facility.

Is there any equipment for moving my goods?

Yes – we have multiple trolleys and sack trucks.  We also have pallet trucks and a trolley for moving large pieces of furniture such as sofas and beds etc.

Do you have customer toilets?

Our customer toilets are located near the entrance of the facility for ease of access.  They are always kept clean and fully equip with soap and toilet roll.

Is there parking available?

We have plenty of parking outside the reception.  We also have space around the side of the facility where you can drive up to the loading bay for ease of loading and unloading your goods.  We also have individual drive up storage units which are located on the outside of the building for external access.

Do you have a lift?

There is a large functioning lift which is located just inside the facility past the loading bay.  It is a large good passenger lift with a 1,900kg /25 person capacity limit.

Can you accept deliveries?

We accept deliveries for commercial and domestic customers.  We can accept small parcel deliveries at reception, and we can also off load pallet deliveries with our forklift truck free of charge, subject to quantity and regularity.  Feel free to ask us for more details regarding this service.

Do you sell packing supplies?

We sell a variety of packing materials including cardboard boxes in various sizes, clear and brown packing tape, biodegradable bubble wrap, packlocks, fragile stickers and tape and more!

 THE SIGN UP PROCESS

What do I need to rent a unit?

To be able to complete the process, we require 2 forms of ID.  One government issued photo ID such as driver’s licence or passport and 1 proof of address which is dated within the last 3 months, such as utility bill or council tax bill etc.

Do I have to insure my goods?

Yes – it is a mandatory requirement that you have your goods insured whilst you have them in storage with us.  We can offer insurance at a cost of £4.00 per month per £1,000 worth of cover, alternatively, you can arrange your own self-storage insurance which may save you some money.  If the customer decides they would like to arrange their own insurance, we must receive a copy of the policy certificate before or during the sign-up process.

Why do I need insurance?

We take good care of our facility, regularly checking for any damages and wear and make every effort to protect items being stored with us. Unfortunately there are some events which may damage your goods which are out of our control, such as a fire or flood. It is therefore standard practice for self storage companies to require their customers to adequately insure their goods for the duration of their stay.

How soon can I move into my storage unit?

Straight away!  We can get everything sorted in a short space of time.  Firstly, contact us and we will help you decide what size space may be right for you.  Then arrange a day and time that suits you to come down and view the units.  Providing you have all the relevant documents as mentioned above, we can get you moving in the same day!

What about contracts?

You are not tied into any contract or minimum or maximum period.  We simply operate on a rolling monthly basis.  You will receive your invoice at beginning of every month.

Do you offer any discounts for long-term rental?

We offer extremely good discounts for upfront payments: 3 months at 32% off, 6 months at  40% off.

Am I required to pay a deposit?

We ask for a deposit which is the equivalent of 1 month’s rent at full price and an additional £15 for an access key fob.  This amount is fully refundable upon vacating your unit.

I want to move out of my unit, how do I cancel?

All we require from you is 14 days’ notice in writing which can be in the form of a letter or via email.  We also ask that you return you access key fob.  Once your 14 days has ended and we have your key fob back, we will refund your deposit and also any rent that you haven’t used.
